The developers of Arena Breakout: Infinite have unexpectedly launched a mentorship system for players. Now experienced operatives can officially help newcomers master the game, receive in-game rewards, and participate in special giveaways.
The program itself looks like an attempt to make the game more accessible for new players, especially after a series of updates, new modes, and the complication of certain mechanics. Developers are offering veterans to teach newcomers shooting, economy, gear management, loot routes, and a general understanding of raids.
For regular players, participation in the program is accompanied by a prize draw:
the 'Apostle' skin set;
3 Premium Battle Passes;
additional bonuses for participants.
Separate rewards are also provided for the mentors themselves. Developers promise:
bonds;
a unique business card;
a special Discord role;
participation in a separate draw for 750 bonds.
However, the exact number of bonds for active mentorship has not yet been disclosed, so it is unclear how beneficial the system will be for experienced players in the long term.
The very fact of such a system appearing is quite unusual for ABI. Unlike MMOs or complex competitive games, most mechanics here are indeed mastered relatively quickly. After 150–200 hours, many players know the maps, weapon meta, economy, and main loot routes.
On the other hand, the game still has a high entry threshold for completely new players. This especially concerns:
economy and loot value;
understanding ammunition and armor;
raid timings and boss behavior;
PvP positioning;
weapon builds and module work;
squad interaction.
For a newcomer, ABI remains a rather stressful extraction game, where mistakes literally cost gear and Coins. Therefore, part of the community believes that the mentor system can indeed help retain new players in the project.
So far, the program looks more like an experiment from the developers. The reward system is described rather vaguely, and the concept itself is causing debates within the community.
Some believe that such a system has long been needed in the game, especially against the backdrop of audience growth after the game's appearance on Steam and regular updates. Others are convinced that mentorship in ABI is more of an attempt to artificially create social activity around a rather straightforward game cycle.
This is especially amusing against the backdrop of player comments that 'the whole game can be learned in a couple of hundred hours'.
Nevertheless, the very fact of the appearance of such social mechanics shows that the developers are gradually trying to develop not only the content part of the game but also interaction within the community.
